I have an IDE 80gb hard disk running XP Pro (Fat32 disk format) and want to
partition the disk into two parts. I have tried many partition apps but all
give me this problem. It seems when selecting the disk it's greyed out and
won't give me the option of partitioning??

Is there a preferred application to use?? Or is it in somewhere write
protected in BIOS etc??!

Can anyone give me a clue??

Cheers

The problem is that you dont realise that the drive is already
partitioned with a single 80gb partition for the entire drive.

So you dont want to partition the drive, you want to shrink
the current partition so it only occupys 40gb and then
create a new partition in the newly created free space.

Obviously that will only be possible if the
current 80gb partition isnt more than half full.

Many use Partition Magic, but it aint free.

And it can lose all your data when attempting to shrink a
partition too. You should only try it when fully backed up.

Cheers for your help.
