can't open Windows XP downloads updates

After I download Critical Windows Updates, I try to open
XP downloads but then it just reopens the same dialog
box, showing all the categories (with "18" by XP so I
know there are downloads I could get, with a dialog
asking if I want to scan for updates - just like it does
when I first go to Windows Update page!

Hi Will,
First, are the downloads successfully installed? (after an item has succeeded, there is on-screen verbiage "....update successful...".
Please re-explain (clarify) what you mean by "try to open XP download".

Either you have a repeating dialog, or you are pressing a selection on the left-hand frame....when you should not, OR....
you are having this problem where you keep seeing "update now":
For Windows XP, its is "mandatory" that Cryptographic Service, plus RPC Remote Procedure Call,
plus System Restore be *enabled* & workable-- before going to Windows Update site.
Be sure you have not disabled those.
