Hello all...

Starting this morning, when I have IE open and then try to open another
instance of it, it just closes out of the first window and opens the second.
Or, it just shuts down IE altogether.

This, as I'm sure you can imagine, is very frustrating. A lot of times I
have to have more than one browser window open at the same time.

WinXP sp2 - full patched (Just checked the Windows Update site). Nothing new
has been installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated

To expand on my previous message:

When clicking on a link in IE, it shuts IE down completely.

When IE is open and I go to open another instance of IE, it shuts down the
first instance and opens the second instance.

Thanks,
Bruce

First, update/reinstall your scripting engines from here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp

If still no joy, go to File Types (My Computer...Tools...Folder
Options...File Types tab)
Scroll down to the URL: Hypertext Transfer Protocol file type, click to
highlight, click Edit, click Open, click Edit (slightly different with Me -
click to highlight, click Advanced, click Open, click Edit).

Application used: "C:\PROGRA~1\INTERN~1\iexplore.exe" -nohome
Use DDE box should be checked
DDE Message: "%1",,-1,0,,,,
Application: IExplore
DDE...not running: <blank>
Topic: WWW_OpenURL

Okay out.

Some third party apps w/ pop-up blockers can cause this problem, i.e.
toolbars from Google, Yahoo, etc.
