can't open printer-friendly pages

This problem has been on-going for awhile. Why can't I get the printer-friendly pages to
open at the New York Times online? For instance this page opens fine:

but when I click on the printer-friendly format button the printer-friendly page takes a
long time to load and it eventually times out with a "cannot find server or DNS error"
message. Windows is completely up to date. The problem is somewhat intermittent - go
figure. I tried disabling my pop-up blocker but that does not help. Any clue? TIA

Does the link for the printer-friendly button go to the same server
or an alias? Which OS? Use command line tools such as nslookup
(if you have it) or tracert (just for the lookup) to check your DNS.
Then use telnet 80 to try to test the actual HTTP connection.
Doing those things first might actually help you use your page
if in fact the cause of your problem is your DNS.

For example, notice that all graphics on the registration page
(which is as far into the site that I want to go) are all at an alias
of a caching server which is at completely different addresses
from the ones which serve the text.
