As long as your emails and calendars are stored in a .pst
file, you shouldn't have to worry about them. Find it and
make a copy prior to re-loading if that will give you a
little piece of mind.

The file won't copy to a cd--msg says "Windows
encountered a problem" blah blah blah What next? You
know, I have more email problems than anyone I know. The
settings get obliterated, mail gets lost, server problems
occur. Why do you think my email so unstable?

Close Outlook and copy the .pst file yourself (using Explorer or
whatever CD-R[W] writer software you are using). Outlook requires write
access to any .pst file that is has open. It is probably screwing up in
copying the file when someone (i.e., itself) has write privileges to the
file. So close Outlook to remove the process (Outlook) that has the
file open for writes, then copy the .pst file.

All files on a CD are read-only - because it is a ROM (read-only media).
So when you copy the file back to the hard drive, it will still have the
same file attributes. Outlook demands write-access to its .pst file.
After copying the file from the CD to the hard drive, you will first
have to remove its read-only attribute before opening it in Outlook.

By the way, have you tried starting Outlook in safe mode ("outlook.exe
/safe") to see if it starts up that way?
