Can't open Outlook 2000 (newly installed)

I think I must have installed Outlook wrongly - entered
the wrong email details etc. When I installed it I entered
the details (mail server etc) for my company email,
however it turns out that I can't access them from a
personal computer. Now I can't open it to change the
details. If I right click on the Outlook icon in order to
change the details to the one for my personal e-mai, that
doesn't work either since it doesn't ask for all the
details.

Below is a description of what happens when I try to open
it:

If I try and open 'outlook' while offline:
It says ' unable to open your default email folders. The
folder C:\documents and settings\owner\local
settings\application\Microsoft\outlook\outlook.ost cannot
be accessed. You must connect to your Microsoft exchange
server at least once before you can use your offline
folder file'
Then if I click OK (only option offered) it says 'would
you like to open your default File System folder instead?'
If I click yes, it opens My computer (in outlook). If I
click no, it exits.

If I try and open 'outlook' while online:
It spends about 5 minutes trying to open it, looks frozen.
Then says
'Network problems are preventing connection to the
Microsoft exchange server. Contact your administrator if
this problem persists'
Then 'the action could not be completed'.
Then brings up a dialogue box, the same one that comes up
if you right-click outlook when it's not open.
This asks for the Microsoft exchange server and mailbox,
with option to 'check name' next to the space for mailbox.
It says 'you must provide the name of your Microsoft
Exchange server & mailbox above, and click 'check name'.
If you do not know this information, contact your
Microsoft exchange administrator. Once the names have been
checked and are underlined, click OK.'

If I click check name, it freezes for about another 5
mins. Then says 'name could not be resolved. Network
problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft
exchange server. Contact your administrator if this
problem persists'. If I click OK, (the only option), it
says again 'The name could not be resolved. The action
could not be completed'. Then goes back to the dialogue
box where it asked for exchange server info, if I then
click on OK, it says 'unable to open your default email
servers. The information store could not be opened'

If I simply enter my details & bypass the 'check name'
stage, it also says 'unable to open your default email
servers. The information store could not be opened'
Then asks 'would you like to open your default File System
folder instead?'. If I click yes, it opens My Computer (in
outlook). If I click no, it exits.

Sorry that this is so long and boring. Anyone have any
ideas?

But do you use an Exchange server? If so your server details are probably
set incorrectly or there are network problems preventing you to access the
server. If you do not use an Exchange mailserver but a POP3 or IMAP server
you'll need to remove the Exchange account from your mailprofile. To do this
go to Control Panel-> Mail to see an overview of your accounts.
