I'm on Windows Vista Home Premium.
What's happening is that sometimes, when I have a few windows open, then
it's as if I've reached a limit....and at that point what happens is this:
If I open a new tab in IE7, it lets me, but the menu bar dissapears...
At this point then, I cannot open a new program, or bring up the context
menu, and if I can open a new IE window, what'll happen is the same thing as
for the lsat one, it'll be strange in that the menu bar will dissapear, and,
I still won't be able to right click within it.
My RAM isn't full. it's happened when it's at 58 %, and currently it's at
64% - I have 2 GB. BOth my cores aren't working very hard, their at about 5
each. Help, please!

It says that C: is System managed, and that for all drives, the min allowed:
16mb
recommended: 3055mb
currently allocated: 2337mb
Should I manually change it to the recommended size then?
And would this make a difference if my RAM isn't being used to it's full
capacity?
Sorry for the confusion, and thanks, and again in advance.

Those setting are correct, sometime people follow recommendations to
manually set it or disable it is save disk space, then as the system gets
busy things stop working.

There have been posters with problems opening what I would consider a LOT of
windows (I.e. 50).

Sorry I cannot offer any more helpful (or unhelpful as is were advice).

A data point: on my Vista home premium, 2 GB installed it normally is using
between 45 and 50% (850 MB) of physical memory.

Well..
i do have a fair amount of windows open perhaps. I Have 18 tabs open in 6 IE
windows, one word document, the sidebar, and Avant Borwser open with four
tabs - though these do not seem to affect much. If it matters, I have Norton
Protection Center running in the task bar. Would this be a lot?

As well, then do you recommend switching my paging file to manual?
Thanks.

I would not recommend that you use manual settings. If you want to try, the
general recommendation is for 1.5x the physical memory you have or use the
'recommended' from the dialog. I would be very surprised if going manual
would help, but then I have been surprised many times before. In general if
the system runs out of cache space it creates some more (does cause a system
pause while it does it). If you try manual be sure to set back to automatic
if that doesn't help.

While I would have a difficult time seeing all of that on my monitor
everyone has his own way of operating.

Perhaps you are one that would benefit from using a 64 bit Vista with it
vastly larger addressing space. Any 64 bit users care to comment on if it
allows large numbers of windows to be used?
