I used Microsoft Office Document Imaging to scan a document, and then saved
it in My Documents as a .mdi file. When I click the file I get a message
that “Windows cannot open this file:…Windows needs to know what program
created it….†If I select the program from a list (Microsoft Office Document
Imaging) the document will appear in that program. Why doesn’t Windows
recognize the file extension .mdi?
After opening the document in Microsoft Office Document Imaging, I clicked
on the File menu, then Send To, and Mail Recipient (as Attachment). The
document appeared as an attachment in a New Message in my Outlook Express
E-mail program as a .mdi file. When I tried to open the document, I got a
message that “This file does not have a program associated with it for
performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control
panel.†I then opened Folder Options, but cannot comprehend how to create a
program association for the file. What steps do I take to open the attachment
in an e-mail program?
Thank you.
