I recently loaded new updates for my windows xp professional. Now i am
unable to get on the internet with ie. All my other applications which use
the internet work fine. i am currently using netscape to get on the internet.
I have run a norton virus scan and eliminated some spyware and i also
downloaded and ran AD-aware and eliminated other suspect files. I also
noticed that my default home page has been changed. I have used the error
report box to notofy microsoft of the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
First try :
WinsockXP Fix- WinXP http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
Also, with instructions, at http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm

But, you probably have more malware to remove. Try CWShredder, Ad-aware,
Spybot and the other at programs named and explained at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

You may have to run WinsockXP Fix after removing malware.

Additional information at:
The Parasite Fight http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
More security tips at http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
Bugs, Glitches & Stuffups: http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm

The malware removal programs can't remove everything. You may have to post a
HijackThis log to one of the forums listed below.
You will receive good help at any of these forums. You might look for a
forum that doesn't have too many unanswered posts.

When i ran spybot it detected some files to be removed. When it tried to remove it said all files have been removed but an error message the came up which said "c:\windows\system32\klogini.d11 is not a valid windows image. please check this against your installation diskette. I could not find that file in the installtion diskette. Any thoughts thanks.

This file c:\windows\system32\klogini.dll appears to have come from some
variant of a
trojan known by various names:
BackDoor-BAC.dr (McAfee)
BKDR_HAXDOOR.AP (Trend Micro)
Troj/Haxdoor-O (Sophos)

Google turned up a number of hits on klogini.dll It appears to be difficult
to remove.

Had Norton AV been updated recently? You might try one or more of these free
online scans:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
http://security.norton.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym
http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp?affid=294
http://www.kaspersky.com/remoteviruschk.html
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

You might try the evaluation version of Panda Titanium Antivirus 2005 from
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/titanium2005/ It might help to run it
from Safe Mode
