Each time I try to open up Internet Explorer, the hour glass shows for a
split second, then nothing. My Outlook Express opens just fine. I'm using
Windows xp home edition. Any suggestions for finding it? Also I can't open my Windows Update. My Outlook Express works just fine so far.

What antivirus software are you using? Make sure it is completely up
to date with the virus definitions not less that a week old and do a
complete virus scan of your computer.

Also what antispyware software do you have installed, if any? Again
update this (most programs have an update function in the program so
you don't need Internet Explorer to update them).

There are two different types of situations that might cause the
problems you are having:
1. Something running on your computer is interfering or conflicting
with Internet Explorer.
2. The files for Internet Explorer have been damaged or corrupted in
some way.

Try booting your computer into Safe Mode and see if you can launch
Internet Explorer that way. If the program still does not open then
the probability is that the files are corrupt. If the program opens
okay in Safe Mode (even if it gives you a "server not found" or "page
not found" error) then Internet Explorer itself is probably okay and
there is something else that is interfering with it.

To fix possible corrupted files use the System File Checker utility in
Windows XP. Use Start - Run and enter

SFC /SCANNOW

in the dialog box. It may require a restart of the computer.

Good luck
