Hi,

On one PC, I can't open any dbf files. These same files can be opened on
similarly configured systems.

The system is Win XP and Excel 2002.

I have applied all service packs from Office Update and I have installed
the FoxPro ODBC driver.

Is there something else that has to be done to enable opening of dbf's in
Excel?

Thanks, Frank

Exactly how are you trying to open the DBFs? What does or doesn't
happen? Do you have the latest ODBC driver for VFP (available from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/downloads/addons/odbc.asp, version
6.1.8629.1).

Hi Cindy,

I've tried to open the dbf's two ways. File/Open and Data/Import. In
both cases I've tried specifying the file type as .dbf.

What happens is that I get a message saying the file is not in
recognizable format (or words to that effect).

Yes, I've downloaded the drivers from the link you gave me on the Foxpro
developers group. The link here doesn't seem to be correct; or at least
I don't see the drivers there.

I've opened these same dbf's on another, similarly configured machine so
I know there is nothing wrong with the files.

Thanks, Frank

Well, something's different between the two machines. You said that
you were using the exact same tables (i.e. not a copy or a similar
table). Are you choosing "files of type - ODBC" from the combo box in
both cases? Do you have the same ODBC version in both cases? Is the
ODBC data source set up the same way?

Hi,

On the machine that works, you do not need to specify a "File of type".
Using the default (All files) works just fine.

On the "bad" machine, I've tried All files and DBF files. Neither works.

There is no File of Type ODBC that I can see?! Could this be a problem?

I will have to check the ODBC versions on both machines. How do you do
that?

Thanks, Frank
