Hi,

I have an external drive which I used to back stuff onto in XP. Now in
Vista, I can access most of the files but on some folders the security
settings on them mean that not even Administrator can open the folders, and
even going into Security I'm not allowed to update the user list to give
myself permissions. Is there any way around this so that I can read my
files?

Thanks

can you take ownership of the files/directories? I'm not sure if you tried
and I don't have Vista installed so can't look but it's worth a shot.

Thank you! Now I knew what I was looking for I was able to find the tab to
take ownership, and now I can get into my folders. Great!
