Can't open files with Archive Flag Set

I am unable to open some of my powerpoint files and I noticed that in every
case the Archive Flag is set. Can anyone tell me how to I unarchive them?
Simply changing the Flag to Read only for example does not seem to work.

The archive flag usually just means that the file has been "touched" (opened,
possibily edited) since it was last backed up. Backup software uses the flag
to determine whether to include the file in "incremental" backups and turns the
flag off after it's backed up the file.

It doesn't seem likely that this'd be the cause of problems in PPT, but who
knows ... it's a computer, it's running Windows, it could get up to all sorts
of mischief when you're not watching it.

If you want to test, rightclick the file, choose Properties. Click Advanced
then remove the check next to "File is ready for archiving".
 
I get a message showing the correct path and file name but saying that
powerpoint cannot open this file type.

If you're using PPT 2003, you want to make sure you have all service packs
installed. Open PPT and go to Help|Check for Updates and install SP2 for
Office 2003. I think that might be the problem here.
