Can't Open Excel

I suspect that a file containing macros may have caused this issue.

I can no longer open Excel. Everytime I try to open the program, or a file,
I get the hour glass, and the system locks up, forcing me to reboot. I tried
removing and reinstalling the software several times, and I tried the
procedure on the web site titled "Error Opening or Saving Files in Office
Programs", but neither worked. I did get a low resource warning while
working with the suspected file one of the first times, and I got the same
message when this problem first occured, but I was not trying to open that
file.

Do you have a solution?

Thank you

Hi Mike,

This isn't guaranteed to solve the problem, but it's worth a try. Use
Windows Explorer to search all of your hard disks for files with a .XLB
extension. Delete any that you find. Note that these may be a hidden files,
so you'll need to set Explorer to show hidden files before searching. Excel
uses these files to store information about its toolbar configuration, but
they frequently become corrupt and cause strange errors like this. Excel
will create clean new default versions after you delete the old corrupt
ones, but you will lose any toolbar customizations you've made.

Rob,

One file showed up in my search. I deleted it, and now everything seems to
be fine. Wow, what a simple solution to something that's been bugging me for
two days! Thanks for your help.

Hi Mike,

Glad to hear it! Thanks for letting me know it worked.
