One of our users has an excel file on a floppy but when
you try to open the file you get the error
message "alph.xls cannot be accessed. The file may be read
only, or you may be trying to access a read only location.
Or, the server the document is stored on may not be
responding." I was told the file was opened, he realized
it was the wrong file & closed it right away. Since then
it cannopt be opened. I did copy the file to the c drive
but it still cant be opened. This file has a year's worth
of data that needs to be turned in to the state, if anyone
has any ideas please help.
Thanks, Alan

Try opening the file with Excel XP (2002). You can also try opening the
file in Word. None of the functions or code will work but maybe you can get
most or some of your data that way.
The big, BIG, REALLY BIG, mistake that was made in this instance was to
attempt to open a file from a floppy. NEVER, EVER, open a file from a
floppy or save a file to a floppy. Yes, you have done it many times without
a problem. So have I. Now you can't say that. Neither can I.
Excel needs lots more space on the drive (floppy or whatever) than the
file size to open or save a file. If that space is not there, you get what
you got.
Always copy to and copy from a floppy. Open and save to the hard drive.
