Using Outlook XP, account type HTML, I cannot open emails
with large attachments (e.g., 1 MB). I get a server
timeout error.

My email comes into my Inbox on the Microsoft server,
which I transfer to my personal folders. I get the
timeout error whether I try to open the file or transfer
it.

How do I get Microsoft to allow me to receive emails with
large attachments.

Outlook help says: "Note: You can't change the server
timeout for an HTTP e-mail account."

Will Microsoft change the server timeout, and if so, who
do I contact?

Thanks.

See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321994. It
might help as it forces all of your e-mail to download, including
headers *and* body. Normally you just get to see a list of headers and
clicking on it then downloads the body (contents). So if this option is
enabled, it could take longer to actually start using your Hotmail
account as you wait for it to get done with all the downloading. It
also means you will be downloading all the spams that proliferate
Hotmail accounts because the Hotmail domain is so heavily mined by
spammers, rather than just seeing the headers and letting you delete an
e-mail before ever having downloaded it contents to your e-mail client.
So you probably do NOT want to enable this download all option for the
Junk Mail folder.

I have had the same problems many times. I got tired of
using different troubleshooting techniques, so if I
receive a big file, I usually right click on it, copy it
to my desktop, then open it from there.

I haven't had any problems since I started this round-a-
bout- method.
