cant open email

I have internet explorer version 6.0 and it wont let me
open up any site that requires a password. I downloaded the
program that is supposed to fix this problem, but it says
its not compatiable with Windows XP and the program cannot
be installed. I changed the compatiability and it was able
to install, but it still didnt fix the problem. Help me!!
What do I do?
