Every time I double click on C: drive from "my computer" it says "Open With" and you have to choose the type of program. Can someone help me with this. I have searched the net and found nothing.
Thanks in advance,
Rob

Try Going To Folder Options/settings And Set Your Computer To Single Click.this Will Not Repair The Problem But It May Provide A Way Around The Problem Until You Find A Way To Solve It.
YOU MIGHT TRY TO SET EVERYTHING SO ALL USERS HAVE SAME DESKTOP AND SAME ACCESS.

You are right, that is of no help whatsoever ...

111jag ... What happens when you use the Windows key + E key

What happens if you right click My Computer and select Explore

I take it as read you are using XP and have a good antivirus program.

Setting Options to single click does not work.
Windows + E key explores my computer
Right clicking and going to explore does work but is a pain in the __ __ __.
I do have a good antivirus program (PC-Cillin 2007).
Any more solutions to the problem would be appreciated.
Rob

I have a hunch of what might be hapenning. Whenever weird **** like this happens it has to be the registry. It always helps to keep an export of the registry handy when in good times. Helps through the rough ones. I have not seen it before, so I cannot help you with what keys might be responsible. With the thousands of possible permutations of changes that can happen to the registry, I doubt that even Microsoft would know the answer to this one without putting your system to a debugger. :-(

If you do have an older registry at hand, you could try a couple of things:

1) diff them on a cigwin or linux box and look for the differences. Sure it is a lot of work exploring these changes, but in the end you might save a format.

2) Revert to the older cleaner registry. You will have to reinstall some of the applications since then, but all your data is secure and therefore beats formatting.

You could always try a few of these reg cleaners, but it is a long shot, I do not trust them very much, and could accelerate the road to oblivion (format).

What is your OS? I presume that this is hapenning only with C and the other folders are OK.

Best of luck

A long shot. Rename your C: drive. If this doesn't change anything, try to create a new partition with PartitionMagic so that your system becomes D. Then delete the new (empty) C partition and expand D to the beginning. Notice the behaviour of the C and D partitions during the resuffling. It just might shake things around to normality. Be careful to activate the right boot partition each time so that you can boot.

I Have Only Seen This Once Before.i Used Sysrec My Disk Recovery Computer To Fix The Problem.
-THIS IS DEFINITLY A USER CAUSED ERROR.NO OUTSIDE SOURCE CAUSED THIS PROBLEM.
