can't open attachments

I can't open attachments in outlook express. OE calls it
an unsafe attachment. The person sending it uses Windows
Pro and I have Windows XP. Is there any setting I can
make that will allow me to open it?
 
Open OE and click on Tools, Options, Security then uncheck -"Do not allow
attachments to be ........"
 
mmmmmmmmmm that is not very good advice, should you not
have told mike to always check email attachments with
anti virus software before opening them ?????
