Hi -Just bought Vista with Windows mail, seems to be fine but I can't open
the attachments in my Inbox mail, getting a warning message saying "Works was
unable to open the project you selected. The file may be corrupted"... I
tested the attach. with N/A/V and it was fine - What should I use to open the
attachments ? I am getting the same message when I try to open any DOC in my
Documents, these I imported from my previous setup although I can open any
pic (jpeg) in the same folders ! I am a silver surfer and it's getting me
really frustrated .. grateful for any suggestions as I have tried a few
simple alternatives without success ....Harold E

If you can't open saved .doc files, then it's not an email problem.
Microsoft Works is supposed to be able to open .doc files.
You may have to reset the file associations for Works in
Default Programs.

Try it after removing the NAV.

Are the documents Works documents or Word documents? Normally the Works
program cannot open Word DOC files unless it was the Word Suite that came
with Word.

At the very least turn off email scanning in Norton. Better yet, uninstall
it.

Dear Mr. Saunders,

I'm sorry. I just don't really understand the previous answers. I get emails
with .doc attachments and when I try to open them the message appears "works
was unable to open the project you selected. the file may be corrupted".

I am using Windows vista, windows mail and works. I have checked: the
default settings to .doc is set to works.

How do I resolve this issue? Alas, I'm not very bright when it comes to
computers.

Thanks in advance,

Dear Mr. Vandermolen,

Thanks for your quick reply. I have downloaded the Word Viewer. But - and
this is probably very stupid - how do I get to files with the email
attechments? I can't find them.

My computer is brand new (A Dell Inspiron). Vista, windows mail and works
were preinstalles. I haven't changed anything.

Can you tell me how to get there? And do I have to do this procedure every
time (most emails with attachments I get are .doc).

Apologies for my ignorance and thanks in advance.

While viewing the email in the preview pane, you can click on
File > Save Attachments. Then navigate to where the .doc attachment
was saved, double-click on it. If the file association has not yet been
set up, it will ask you to choose a program to open with, and you can
make that selection (Word Viewer) permanent. From then on, you
should be able to open .doc attachments directly from within
Windows Mail. If you need to edit that .doc attachment, it is best to
save it first, then work with the saved copy. Apparently though, you
have no way to edit .doc files for now.
