Hi all,
I'm new here. I found a similar post, but the reply didn't fix the problem I'm having.
I am using Excel 2007 and Windows XP. I can't open an Excel fine unless Excel is open first.

What happens is when I double click on the file the file "opens" but it's blank/blue. When I click on the "minimize" button in the top right corner, THEN THE FILE OPENS.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks,
Joanie

Hi Joanie,

The first thing that comes to my mind is that the file isn't associated with Excel for some reason. Associated in this sense means that the computer doesn't know what program to use to open the file.

try the following:

1. Locate the file
2. right click on the file
3. in the menue that appears, click on "open With"
4. a window with a list of programs will appear.............look for Excel
5. if excel is listed there, double click on it and if I'm right the problem will be resolved.

6. if excel is not in the list, click on the "browse" Button at the bottom of the window and navigate to your hard disk (usually drive C)
7. open the folder "program files"
8. open the folder "microsoft office",
9. open the folder "office10",
10. duble click the excel icon

Hope that resolves the issue. Let me know via a reply.

Best,
