Can't open Access db

I'm trying to access a db from a different computer. When
i do so I'm prompted for a username and password. I'm not
prompted if I use any other machine. The problem is that
I have to use the machine with which I'm having issues
opening the db. The correct password does not work.
Anyone has any ideas?

First question is where are the UN/PW prompts coming from?

My guess is from the computer or network, not Access. Otherwise, you'd be getting the prompts all of the time.

It sounds to me like you don't have the necessary computer and/or network privileges. I'd contact the network administrator.

Good luck.

Hi,

The UN and PW are coming from Access. All the needed
privileges are set. I contacted the network administrator
and there's nothing on their end that can be done about
this. Any other suggestions?

Is it possible that the other PCs are joined to the correct workgroup
and this one isn't? Or maybe this PC is joined to a special workgroup
and the others are all joined to the default System.mdw. You can use
the workgroup administrator to check which workgroup each PC is joined
to.

The username and password is coming from the database
itself - All the critical updates & patches were
downloaded - it still doesn't work. This pc and all the
other pc's are joined to the domain and are the same make
and model. Any other suggestions?

I don't know what you mean by this. Are you saying that you are using
some homegrown scheme for managing security? It sounded like you were
talking about the prompts generated by workgroup security.

I think you misunderstood Dirk about workgroups. He wasn't talking about network groups which I originally thought might be your
problem. He was talking about Access workgroups.

Once you clarified where the messages were coming from, I concur with Dirk.

Access's login messages from the Access workgroup you are signed into. The default, does not require logins unless someone starts
playing with the settings.

You need to find out which mdw file the computers are using that don't require login, then join the same one.

For some information on Access security, take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;305542.

Unfortunately, I'm going out of town and won't be able to help anymore until the end of next week. In the mean time, if you continue
to have problems, maybe someone else will help out.

Good luck.
