When I try to open a file in Access 2002, I get a message
that I don't have permission to access the file and to
have the administrator establish the necessary
permissions to do so. I have searched until I am blue in
the face to figure out how to do that since I AM the
administrator and the only user of the group. Any help
out there??

Hi, Mark.

Make sure that you are joined to the workgroup that was used to secure the
database when you try to open the database. Are you not currently using a
shortcut (which points to the correct workgroup) to open the database that
you have used in the past?

Thanks for the reply. I'm not well versed on Acess and
I don't know the "shortcut". I can't even figure out how
to see how the file is secured. Also, when I download a
file from my university class with an Access assignment,
it won't open as it says that it is an "untrusted site".
How can I get the file to open?

Hi, Mark.

Your first message indicated that you were using security to protect your
database file. Your second message indicates that you are downloading this
file from a University's server, so the type of security you are talking
about probably has nothing to do with Access's built-in security, but
Windows security, instead. That's a horse of a different color. Please
disregard my mentioning the shortcut and workgroup information file, since
these are the files you would use for Access security, not Windows.

If I am correct that it's Windows security that is preventing you from
opening the file, then you will need to contact the Windows system
administrator who administers the computer where the Access database file is
located to get user account security permissions on that directory.
Also, when I download a
file from my university class with an Access assignment,
it won't open as it says that it is an "untrusted site".

Perhaps this Knowledge Base article will shed some light on the cause:
