I am using Frontpage 2002. Till a week ago all was fine.

When I open my frontpage and log onto the my website (xyx.com) I can connect
to the website successfully, however when I try to click on open files I see
no files in there. However if I click on the View > Folders I can see all my
files and folders. I can successfully publish to my website too, but its
annoying to go to folders to access a file. Also when I try to hyperlink I
the menu that pops up does not show the files in the folder. I have manually
type the path. What is causing this problem and how could I fix it.

Thanks in advance

Chris
I tried the help/ detech and repair function it does not work. The weird
thing is if I publish the webpage to my desktop computer running W2K, I can
see all files when I click open. I am running my own IIS server and for some
reason I cannot see the files as stipulated earlier. Any more suggestions or
help please.

Are you opening your web by
File | Open Web?

Do you use View > Folder List?

Correct I have tried using File |Open web but with that I cant open my files

however if I use View| folder then I can see all the files but want FP to
show me the files with File | Open the way it was doing before.

Any suggestions Rob?

I can't duplicate it.
It kinda sounds like you're working with loose pages that are not in a web though.

button.

then tools/ recalculate hyperlinks.

Rob, trust me they are not loose webpages. That was one of the first things
that I checked. I appreciate you guys working with me on this.

Chris
I tried your suggestion but to no avail. Hope you folks will work with me
and not leave me hanging. Thanks again as I await more input.

Ok..just review this for for me, I've read this sentence over an over, and I'm not sure what you mean by the folders part:

"I can successfully publish to my website too, but its
*annoying to go to folders to access a file."*

from your OP.

Rob
what I mean is
Server extensions are working fine as a result I have no problem publishing
my webpages and updating content

Secondly if I want to see my files I have to go to View | Folders and there
I can see all my folders and files, however I cannot see them when I go to
File | Open or File | open web. Hope this answers your questions

Thanks

When you use File Menu | Open Web / Site the first dialog after entering your login info, will show
only the folder within the web, you must then click Open to actually open the web / site to then
have access to the web / site content. This is the same in all version of FP since FP2000.

Clearly Confirm your steps (yes / no to step each below)
From what I understand so far

1) You Use File Open Web/Site and are able to open your site in FP
2) With the site open in FP you are able to see all folders/files in the site in View Folders or View Folder List
3) You can or can not open a page (html) by double clicking it in View Folders or View Folder List
4) With the Site open in FP you are using File Open and apparently can't see any files - confirm
- in the File open Dialog is the drop down at the bottom for Files of type set to All files?

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) I can open the page (html) by double clicking view folders or view
folder list.
4) Yes/correct
5) Yes in the File Open Dialog box at the bottom for file type they are set
to "All files"

Look forward to hearing from you guys and again thanks.

The normal way to open files w/ a web open is to just double click them in Folder View or Folder List
- you can do that

But it appears you may have a Web Folder Problem (causing the dialog to not populate)
First try http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=287402

If that doesn't help the below is Not verified to work in all cases, but try the below steps

In Windows Explorer Find and delete the hidden *.web web cache files for the local and remote webs you are having the problems with
(or delete all *.web)
( Usually in %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache )

1) Open your FP web using File Open site and browsing to Network Places for your site
2) Select the site (double click the site in Network Places) but Do Not Open it
This will get you the File selection dialog (where you can't probably can't see any of the folders or subwebs in the site)
3) On the same line as "Look In" you will see a series of Icons, Select the Folder Icon for Created New Folder (or use [Alt][5])
(Make sure the New Folder Dialog has Documents selected under: Folder Contains)
4) Enter a folder name (that you are sure is not in your current web - say: fixit) and OK
5) Use the Up One Folder Icon, or [Alt][2], and select Open (your root web)
(your web folders should have shown you all your folders including the newly created one)
6) Run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
7) Open a page, select some text, and try to insert a Hyperlink to see if your web folder view is repaired (if your web is not
displayed in Look In, browse to it under Network Places)
(Delete the new folder created above)

Alternatively:
1) Open your FP web using File Open site and typing in the URL as http://www.yoursite.com/ (or use File Recent Sites)
2) Open a new (or existing page) at the Root level and select an insertion point on the page
3) Use Insert - Picture - From File
This will get you the File selection dialog (where you probably can't see anything now but the open page listed)
4) On the same line as "Look In" you will see a series of Icons. Select the Folder Icon for Created New Folder (or use [Alt][5])
(Make sure if shown the New Folder Dialog has Documents selected under: Folder Contains)
5) Enter a folder name (that you are sure is not in your current web - say: fixit) and OK
6) Use the Up One Folder Icon, or [Alt][2], and see if your web folders are repaired
7) Cancel the dialog and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks, then try inserting a hyperlink or picture from file
(Delete the new folder created above)

Please post back if either of the above cures the web folders problem

I do not know if you have resolved your issue, we had a similar thing today
and the solution was to enable Directory Browsing on the Home directory.

I was having the identical issues and on more than one PC so that tells me it
wasn't a client issue.

I went through the large list of suggestions in a previous posting
(troubleshooting web folders - Q287402) and that didn't help

The suggestion for turning on directory browsing on the home directory
worked for us. Thank you WO!

we do have the same problem and I am in the admin group, which I do have full
control on every sub folders of the site. But I have this problem with every
single site.
thanks
