can't make changes

I am having a problem changing to default, when I go to internet tools
general tab and select outlook express as my default mail and close
when I open again its no longer my default. If I go to outlook expres
options, programs the default mail is blank and I cannot type in th
field. I tried the reset all in internet tools "advanced", now if I se
my default page in internet exployer. when i exit and come back th
default has changed. does anyone know how to fix this problem? also th
remember password box in outlook express is grayed out

It might be a security program blocking the Registry change it needs to
make. A few of the programs now doing this are:
Ad-aware's Ad-Watch
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spysweeper
Windows Defender
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions.

In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 or Norton 2007 it actually has to be
uninstalled. Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you
reinstall Zone Alarm.

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking with Networking and try the change.

Some spyware will change and fix the default home page in IE.
I had an NT client that had its home page altered and fixed to a porn site.
Luckily the secretary was the broad minded type.
Worth running a full virus and spyware scan to check you are clean.
