Can't make changes to linked data

I built a new access table by linking it to an Excel worksheet.

I can make changes to the worksheet and they are reflected in the Access
table, but Access won't let me make changes to the table.

I don't understand why. Can someone offer some insight?

Microsoft was recently forced to remove the ability to update linked Excel
spreadsheet because of a lawsuit they lost.
