can't make an mde

I'm using Access. Files are created in Access2000 by default. I'v
converted to Access2002. When I try to create an mde I get a ver
unhelpful message saying that Microsoft Access was unable to create a
MDE database. I've run out of ideas. The database is split.

Any guidance greatly appreciated

Try compiling the database to identify what errors there may be. With any
module open, the Compile option is on the Debug menu.
 
We quite often get this unhelpful message too.
We haven't pinned it down, but we run multiple versions of access on our
machines.

If we get this message we always let another workmate do the MDE creation as
it works on his machine, for some reason. His machine can always do it
tho.

AND heres the thing,,,,

just the other day we played with the /decompile switch for access

After using this, he couldn't create an MDE and I could, so the answer is
in that switch somewhere, ie, in the version of the vba dll's..

Read the whole page Ian, I had an error that was resolved by the last line
on the page, so don't give up hope.

So you've got A2002 installed but the MDB format is A2000? The MDB
format must be A2002 for you to create an A2002 MDE. If you want to
create an A2000 MDE you must use A2000.
