I agree with the answer that the database needs to be
split; however, can I do this while the tables cannot be
looked at? I can not bring up the tables in design view
when I bring up the database even though I have
permission!!

My original message was:
I developed a database application in Access 97 at my
office. It has worked fine for several years as a network
application (both the data and the programs are in one mdb
residing on the network.) It is able to be opened and
used; however, it would not perform an operation utilizing
a maketable query this week. It is not able to look at the
tables. It gives an error message: "Operation invalid
without a currect index" and no table names appear in the
table block. The last backup, unfortunately, was made 2
months ago. That backup is able to be opened and the
tables looked at. Is there anything that can be done with
the current mdb file? Or must I utilize the backup copy?
Please help!!!!

Mary Lou,

Please try to keep your posts in the same thread. I realize that may be
difficult using a browser instead of a newsreader, but it is possible, and
we need to be able to follow the thread. Your database is corrupt. You may
be able to fix it. Try the following:

First, always work on a copy of the database. Working on the original may
make it impossible for a repair service to fix it.

Download a copy of JetComp.exe:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;273956

Also have a look at the Microsoft KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;209137

Then have a look at Tony Toews' Access Corruption FAQ at:

http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruptmdbs.htm

for some suggestions. Unfortunately, some corruption cannot be fixed - you
may need to create a new database, import what can be salvaged, and recreate
the rest.

Although it's a paid service, Peter Miller does an outstanding job of saving
corrupt databases. Try this URL:

Lastly, I'm sure you now realize how important it is to keep the integrity
of your data sound. Use a firewall, anti-virus software, and backup software
religiously. Make sure all patches are up to date and that you maintain your
backups off-site and that you do a restore at least once per month to check
the integrity.
