My mother turned on her computer this morning and instead of coming up like
it normally does, the Welcome screen appeared. When she selected her name,
it showed "loading your personal settings", then the screen blinked, followed
by "saving your settings" and back to the Welcome screen. Click the name
again and the same process happens.

Tried starting in Safe Mode and it takes you to the Welcome screen. This
time the administrator is shown along with her name. Clicking either one of
the options produced the same result as above and it doesn't go into safe
mode.

Any ideas??

Found a previous post that mentioned performing a Manual System Restore so I
guess i will try that tomorrow. Any other ideas?

From the same menu where you can select Safe Mode, try Last Known Good
Configuration. If that doesn't work, further troubleshooting is required
and we just don't have enough information to be specific. Your mother's
hard drive could be failing, or the operating system could be corrupted or
infected, or... If LKGC doesn't work and you want more help from this
newsgroup, please provide some information about your mother's computer.
