Can't Logon to Desktop Computer with Win 2000 Pro OS

I took a desktop computer home from work (it was on a
network, with server running NT) and was plugging it in to
my dsl modem/symantec firewall VPN 100 (with corresponding
firewall at the server) and went into "Networking" on
settings and unchecked "Domain" and checked "Workgroup"
(because my old Windows 98 had Workgroup Name). Now when
I try to log back on, it says: "The system could not log
you on. Make sure User name and domain are correct, then
type your password again. Letters in passwords must be
typed using the correct case. Make sure that Caps Lock is
not accidently on."

I know that the user name and the password is correct (I
even tried Administrator and the correct admin
password). I keep getting the same message... it says
make sure the domain is correct, but there is no line for
me to enter the domain (because I stupidly unchecked
it)... I've tried the F8 on startup and went to last
known good configuration, but that didn't work.
Tried "Safe Mode" and "Safe Mode with Networking" after I
took it back, but it just thinks it needs a user on the
workgroup and there is no workgroup.

Any help for a really basic user? It would be much
appreciated!!!

(p.s.) I took it back to work and plugged it into the
network, but am still getting the same message... the
computer does not recognize anything and my administrator
says that there is nothing left to do but reload the
o.s.... anyone know different, or am I going to have to
lose everything and start over?

Thanks,
Suzanne

You are using your domain user account to log on
workgroup, so failed

The reason is workgroup required logoon locally using
local user account.

What the OS is install, a locally administrator account is
create with password. you can use this this local
administrator account to logon to workgroup.

If you cant remember the user ID and password of this
local administrator account, try using user ID
as "administrator" ( default ) and leaving password blank.

If this doesnt work, you have to download a bootdisk to
bootup the computer and reset the local administrator
account.
