cant login after upgrade?

Hi, I have just recently brought the XP Upgrade from ME. The install worked
fine, but when I get to the login screen I see my user account but it asks
for a password? On entering a password or leaving it blank I get the
following error message:

"The system cannot log you on due to the following error:
The specified domain either does not exsist or could not be contacted.
Please try again or consult your system administrator

I have tried using the Windows repair tool, but that also asks me for a
password. Also the same thing happens when in safe mode. Can anyone help?
Thanks

I can't help except to say that the upgrade to XP from ME has very seldom
been a good idea. You can use the XP Upgrade CD to do a clean install though
you'll need to insert the ME disk (qualifying media) during/before the
installation process completes. Other than that I'm not too sure what to
tell you. If you had stuff on that drive that you want to keep you can
install it to a different partition (you can setup and make a partition and
do a side-by-side installation of XP) so that you can get your old data back
but your old settings and the like will not be usable and you'll need to
re-install any applications that you had before.
