Having trouble logging in to retrieve my mail and also when I close the
window it gives me the following error message..................please help!

Account: 'HOME MAIL', Server: 'pop-server.houston.rr.com', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR Authentication failed', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

Account: 'WINDOWS MAIL', Server: 'pop-server.houston.rr.com', Protocol:
POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC17

Are you sure the username and password for that 'HOME MAIL' account
are correct? If so, which antivirus program are you running? McAfee
and Norton antivirus are not compatible with Windows Mail
and will need to be uninstalled.

I'm having the same problem and am running Avast. I went to the Windows
Security Center and disabled the Windows Firewall, but that didn't change
anything. Any thoughts?

Forgot to mention that I've double-checked with my Internet provider that my
username and passward are correct. They said everything is correct on their
end.

Windows' own security programs (Firewall, Defender) have never been
implicated in any Windows Mail issues.

I replied to you in the thread "Can no longer receive smtp mail".
Please don't spread the same issue over several different threads.

First time on this discussion group - just trying to find a solution. I've
seen the same issue addressed in at least 7 different threads already, all
started last week after a Windows Update, with several different fixes
suggested.
