my problem has multiple layers:

first, i am able to browse using internet explorer, but i am not able to
type on any page. that is, i can type in the address bar, but not anywhere
else (eg; can't log onto email, etc.)

second, after dumping my browser cache, deleting cookies, defraging my
computer, rebooting in vain, i tried to run a system scan using norton
antivirus, but kept getting an "internal error" message and was unable to do
a scan. after executing both tips given by norton support (ie; install
windows script 5.6, uninstall/reinstall norton), neither problem was cured.
i tried uninstalling norton to see if that would help my explorer problem,
but it didn't.

i also tried running the DOS system scan, but this also didn't solve anything.

third, when trying to use outlook express to contact this newsgroup, i was
unable to even open the application.

i'm at a total loss! are these problems interconnected? if certain files
are corrupted, is there something i can do to recover them without
reinstalling windows 2000? how can i avoid this in the future? any feedback
would be greatly appreciated.

Iam experincing a similar situation. Per my last post I cannot seem to get
IE to execute a typed in address and a link to another page.....it hangs then
forwards to "page not Found"

this is in addition to my outlook program being exremely problematic while
it hangs a just about everything

understand that this is post Windows XP SP2 installation......if we could
get some help id be swell

Try disabling AutoComplete for Forms and User names
(via Options, Content tab)

This is probably off-topic for this newsgroup but you're not helping
your case by withholding details. What does "internal error" mean?

i also tried running the DOS system scan, but this also didn't solve anything.

Does this mean you tried sfc /scannow

third, when trying to use outlook express to contact this newsgroup, i was
unable to even open the application.

Again, this could probably be better handled in another newsgroup
and you're not helping your case by not giving a better description
of your symptoms.

Try an IE Repair. (Ref KB194177) Note that if you don't have IE6
in your Add/Remove Programs list that you should be able to Run...

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance

In addition you could try the regsvr32 commands listed under KB831429.

how can i avoid this in the future?

Most likely disable your AV application before you install security patches ;o

any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
