First, I cannot find an appropriate section to post this question so please
advise where I can re-post if I have to.

My problem is that I am replacing my existing Windows 2000 computer with a
computer running XP Pro. Our network server is Windows NT 4.0. While
changing out the computers, I am switching back and forth between the two so
I can copy old files to the network from the ‘old’computer. The problem is
that I cannot log onto the Windows 2000 computer unless I unplug the network
cord and then sign in. After that, I insert the cord back in and can access
the network. The password at sign-in works fine on the XP system.

I am very network challenged I would appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Phil

Do both computers have the same name?
Did you join the XP to the domain using the same computer name?
Each computer account has its own SID, even if the computer has the same
name, it won't have the same SID, and the computer cannot authenticate with
the domain.
Change the name on the Win2k and rejoin it to the domain.
