I'm getting a "The local policy of this system does not permit you to logon interactively" message when I try to log on. I've got 3389 open on the router. My associate has had this working for some time. He used port forwarding to forward 3389 and 80. He also has DMZ server setup pointing to his IP. Now I have the same two ports opened and have changed to DMZ to my IP but still no luck. Thanks for any help you can provide

George

Hi George,

This is usually caused by one of two issues:

1) There is a blank password for the user you are trying to login with. To
fix this, please add a password for that user and try again.

2) Did you make the user that you are trying to connect a member of the
Remote Desktop Users group? There are two ways to do this.

First way -
Right click My Computer -> Properties - Remote tab
Click on Remote Users button and Add the user you want to have Remote
access.

Second way -
Start - Run - lusgmrg.msc -> Click on Groups.
Double click Remote Desktop Users -> Click Add. Add the user you want to
have Remote access.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Nico Tomacelli

If the target machine is an upgrade from Windows 2000, there's a policy
setting which may be involved. I don't have my notes on it here at the
moment, but if that matches the situation, I hope George will reply and I'll
find the setting.

Neither of your solutions works for me. XP
Professional. I have added the password and added the
user to the remote tab of the computer. Solution 2 gives
error that the program I am trying to run (lusgmrg.msc)
is not found. The remote desktop ran fine until I
reloaded my entire computer thanks to the system hanging.

Try this

On the XP machine, select Run, gpedit.msc, then expand

Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Local Policies->User Rights Assignment

Find setting "Allow logon through Terminal Services"; Add appropriate user account
