Been a member of a website with no probs for several weeks, suddenly when i
load the webpage the "log in" link is missing on my laptop. It's there on
other PC's so it's my laptop not the site! Not being able to voice an opinion
on this particular site is killing me - hey i'm a woman!
i get by on PC's but only just - i visited the FAQ section of the site and
did their suggestions (cookies/java enabling). I've done a FS scan using
Norton which picked up and quarantined several Adware BargainBuddy files ,
i've done a scan using Ad aware and quarantined then deleted several other
files. I've deleted Google Toolbar cos i've heard it's nothing but trouble.
I recently installed (on good advice two bit torrent client programs - ABC
and Bitlord) and promptly deleted them cos well i won't swear on here...

It's driving me mad so please any help would be very welcome.

i'm using Windows XP Professional...i don't mind emailing you the name of the
website but would rather not post it on here, not that it's of a delicate
nature but just a bit protective of it ...iykwim :) hope this doesn't offend

i really hope you can help, cos i'm pulling my hair out

Thanks in anticipation!

Hi,
Which version of Windows?
Which website? Seeing the page may help with diagnosis.

just as an aside..i've viewed the source of the site in question at found the
html for the missing links (log in and register, and when you are logged in
these change to You are logged in as "whoever" and logout) so they are there
just not showing on my browser - WHY??? Please someone must have the answer!

Hi,
I wanted to view the source to verify that the login was via a javascript.
It probably is, so here are some things to try:

Go to Internet Options> Security> Internet Zone, set it to Default.

Try these two commands from Start> Run> cmd [enter]
regsvr32 vbscript.dll [enter]
regsvr32 jscript.dll [enter]

Reinstall the JavaScript engine. Go to
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp
for the appropriate download.

Clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content when that dialog pops up) It's often
recommended that the TIF folder be kept at about 50 MB (Settings.)

Check any third-party security programs to see if one of them is blocking
scripts, scripting, active content.

Hope this helps,

Try deleting any Cookie for that site and then press Ctrl-F5

BTW since you have found the source you now at least have
a workaround possibility: just extract the URL that the button
would be executing and go there manually. <eg>

Good luck
