can't use... sent error report... what now?

Outlook with Office XP Standard under Windows XP
Professional suddenly won't work. Get "encountered
problem message" ... I sent report.

I also ran Office "repair" under setup. Restarted. Same
messsage. I reinstalled Office. Restarted. Same message.

I checked updates for both Office and Windows... all up
to date. Restarted. Same message.

I ran MaAfee virus scan. No results.
I check updates to McAfee. All up to date. Restarted.
Same message.

I downloaded and ran MaAfee program called "stinger" no
results. Since only thing I can think of is getting a
result from the error report I sent to Microsoft... how
do I follow up on that? Any other thoughts gladly
accepted... maybe even "desperately accepted":) Thanks
in advance.

Try renaming outcmd.dat to outcmd.old and start Outlook. It will reset your
Toolbar back to default. If this file is corrupted it will prevent Outlook
from starting. The default location is;
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Hope this helps!

I turned off System Restore, found "outcmd" and renamed
with .old... nothng changed. Restored System Restore.

Next I uninstalled the entire Office XP Standard package
and reinstalled it. Got all the updates installed. Tried
Outlook ... same problem. BTW Outlook Express works!

Any thoughts? Anywhere to look? Anyone to contact?

What version of McAfee are you using? If version 7, please check the McAfee
support forums as there is a known problem/conflict between McAfee v 7.x and
Outlook.
