I recieve emails from beter homes and gardens/ such as recipes of the week,
when I open them and click on the recipe it will not go to the sight. How
can I fix this problem? I have windows vista and I use windows mail as my
main email address.

Go to Tools, Options, Security, select the Internet zone instead of
the restricted sites zone. Also, make sure Internet Explorer is set
as your default browser

Hi there,

I am having the same problem. Once in a while i can click on a hyperlink in
an email and it will open up in my browser (Firefox) - Well, that's how it
used to work anyway. Now for some reason i receive an error message when
clicking on hyperlinks in emails. ("Application not found")

I tried changing my default browser to IE as you suggested here, but it made
no difference.

Any ideas?

Hi Shawn,

Thank you so much for your time!
I followed your advise, but it still didn't fix the problem. :-(
Any other ideas?

Ok.....so let me get this straight. I have had Vista on a new computer system
for a week now, and this problem has been running me crazy, trying to solve
it. Is this to say that if one prefers to use another browser as their
default browser, they won't ever be able to get links to work in Windows
Mail? Just wanna be clear on this.

I can only go by what other users report here.
There may be a fix I don't know about, but those who use
browsers other than IE have reported way more problems
with getting links to work. Perhaps the newer versions of Firefox
(etc.) have fixed this problem.

Wow.......this really disappoints me then, regarding Microsoft. That's a
pretty cheap shot if you ask me. This is one of the reasons I really
procrastinated about going to Vista - because I had already heard about many
bugs and problems with it. In fact I 'swore' that I would NOT ever get Vista.
Unfortunately it came on my new system. I had hoped that all the talk wasn't
true and that I would actually like it - but this just tops it. Forcing a
particular browser on an operating system. I may end up formatting and
putting XP on here instead. I guess I'll spend some time finding a
work-around to this problem. Having something forced on a person usually
gives them the impitice to do just the opposite! Off to surf the web with
Netscape! :)

I don't think it's an issue of a cheap shot by Microsoft.
Microsoft made some radical changes with Vista (compared
to XP), and some of the older software no longer works with
the new OS. This happens every time a new OS version comes
out. Some of the current antivirus programs still aren't 100%
Vista compatible. It takes time for the third party software
developers to learn the new way of doing things.
