A couple of days ago, my IE 6 running on win xp home
edition quit working. I can get online thru aol because
they use their own browser. I have tried the regedit and
changing the value from 1 to 0 to reinstall. no luck. i
have tried running sfc/ scannow. no luck. i see where
others have posted the same problem but nobody says how/if
they ever got it fixed. i have an 80 gig hard drive
loaded with programs and i dont want to have to reformat
the hard drive and reinstall windows and all those
programs. somebody must know something about how to fix
this. please email me (e-mail address removed). thanks.

Hi,
From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third party
browser extensions." If that helps, you have a malware problem (adware,
spyware, parasites.) Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware,
Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

Additional information at:
The Parasite Fight http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
Bugs, Glitches & Stuffups: http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm

If those steps don't help, post back with specific error messages or other
details.

I just started having the same problem. I try to open IE6 and the error box comes up. I send the error report and it looks like there's a fix or at least a link to more information about the problem, but I can't view the information since I can't open IE! Talk about a Catch 22. I tried reinstalling the IE6 Service Pack 1...nothing. I'm scanning for viruses but so far none have been found. I'm at a total loss. Please post your solution if you founf one so we can all see.
