I installed Vista (32 bit) on my brothers computer without a problem, and it
works great. I now want to install it on mine, but I want to duel boot with
XP. I selected Custom installation, and selected the HDD (which I emptied of
stuff prior to this, so as not to lose any data). The install starts fine,
but after the first restart I get an error message that says that it shut
down to prevent damage to my computer, followed by this error code:
STOP: 0x0000009c (0x00000004,0x83162EC8,0xB2000000,0x00070F0F)

when this happened several times, I unplugged my XP HDD, and booted from the
Vista install DVD, and installed that way. It worked fine, but would not boot
once I reinstalled my XP HDD. I tried another HDD that I have, and that had
the same problem. I know that there is no problems with these HDDs as I can
still use them for other uses, and I got a successful install without having
the XP HDD installed. Please help!

From looking at other posts, it seems evident that duel booting is possible
with Vista

OK, that doesnt help at all. It only serves to confuse me more, as I have
none of the problems listed to my knowledge, and I dont even have a Pentium
processor, it is a AMD

What happens once you reinstall the XP drive? will XP boot? Or does it just
blue screen?
You might want to try running setup from a command line with a noreboot
switch (x:\setup.exe /noreboot where x is the dvd drive)
Once setup completes, you'll find yourself back at an XP desktop. Restart
the system and cross your fingers.
You might try x:\setup.exe /checkupgradeonly as well..no idea if it will
give any good info, but it doesn't hurt.

OK, when I reinstall the XP drive, I hafta hit the up arrow constantly to
keep it from selecting "Setup New OS" (Or something like that) as when it
selects that it crashes (error message again) but then XP will boot fine

Download VistaBootPro and use it to set the default OS to XP. You can also
use it to delete dean entries on the boot options screen. When you
reinstall Vista it will again become the default boot OS.

Correction: dean = dead
