I have been trying to clean install a new windows xp on my
1 year old computer (windows 98 se) for a few days now with
no success. I have changed the BIOS settings, restarted,
and done everything short of returning the cd(if that's
possible). The xp screen comes up and gives me the choices
of install, check compatibility, etc. If I click on
install, the cd reader makes its noise and the little hour
glass comes onto the screen like it's going to do
something. It continues humming for about 3-4 minutes then
returns the original screen with the three menu choices.
Nothing ever changes. If I eject the cd a message comes up
that says "the file D:\|386\WINNT 32A. dll is corrupt or
could not be loaded setup cannot continue." This is a
brand new disk. What's going on?
