I cannot install Windows Vista July CTP Due to this message that is
displayed at the Compatibility Report.

---------------------------

You must make the following changes before installing Windows

Close Windows installation, go to Programs, and uninstall the following
programs:
Windows SharePoint Services
-----------------------------------

Windows SharePoint Services are not displayed in the Installed Programs area
of control panel. I cannot install Windows Vista.

Please Help!!

Is SharePoint one of the components of a Microsoft Office suite that you
have currently installed?

Yes, he should be able to check "modify" the Office installation and uncheck
SharePoint, or something similar.

They never respond back, Colin. I'm starting to wonder why I ask the
questions to prompt the solution!

Think Rhetorical Question.

It's the CDO web interface. Many people think this is a web forum and if
they don't recieve an answer while they are waiting online they give up.

Perhaps I am a little more cynical. I wonder how many look at the question,
realize their error and are too embarrassed to respond? Another possibility
to add to your theory is that the poster used a shotgun theory and asked the
same question on various forums, and has received a satisfactory response
from another source

I have also Searched my Registry and Hard Drives for the word SharePoint with
nothing found. Now I am Searching for Share. Don't know if it will find it.

I prefer to do a clean install over an upgrade. It's more work if you have
to reinstall a bunch of programs but in the end you get a better result.

Yeah But I havn't done a clean install since Windows 2000 came out. I can't
posibly because I have too many programs installed and configured a certain
way, like around 100. It would take like a year to get back where I was. I
don't even have all of the software or the Licence keys still.

I know everything went better on your test installation, but you still
shouldn't have let a beta OS anywhere near your production box.

The Vista Beta shouldn't be anywhere near this system. You do understand
that it is quite likely that running a Beta OS will cause the system to fail
such that you will have to do a format and reinstall at some point?

If that is the case then I highly recommend you keep vista far away from
this system.
Remember, it's a beta....EXPECT it to wipe everything on your harddrive.

And to add to Kerry's post, there is a significant chance that you will not
be able to upgrade from Vista Beta 2 or RC1 to a final, retail version of
Vista. That means that on or about 31 May 2007, any computer running either
of these will become nothing more than an ungainly paperweight.

"Upgrade limitations
You may not be able to upgrade your installation of Windows Vista Beta 2 (or
RC1) to the final, commercially available edition of Windows Vista. To
upgrade you will need to acquire the final edition of Windows Vista and you
may have to do a clean installation."

I ain't stupid, I know, I did that with Windows 2000 Beta too. I have been
programming computers since 7 years old in 84. I do have a full system
backup with XP. I have been using Vista Beta 2 on this system for about a
month, with only minor annoying problems, nothing major. My friend has a Mac
and I had to show his crappy mac up. XP sucks to me now, I can't even use
it. Everything was great until Vista Setup compliance told me to Uninstall
Norton 2003 - 2006 products. Now Updrade Has Been Disabled - Upgrade
Compliance Check cannot be run. It ran before the Norton Uninstall. No
system restore points in comp. either. dam.

SB-

No one here said you were stupid, our comments are based on only the
information you provide.
The statement we responded to had no mention of a full back up.

So now that you have a backup, nothing to worry about, Just restore your
back up to your PC.
Once that is done, Remove Any Norton products. You will probably have to
manually remove most of it.
Symantec makes horrible un-installers, always leaves stuff in the registry
and often does not remove the autoruns.
Once you know you have it all removed

then try the install

I also cannot install Vista due to the error regarding uninstalling Windows
Sharepoint Services. I have Office 2000 upgraded to Office XP, Visual Studio
2003, Visual Studio 2005, SQL 2000, SQL 2005 on Windows XP Professional. I
also have FrontPage 2003.

I do not see Windows Sharepoint Services in Add/Remove programs.

I will need to do a clean install

I'm sure there are lots of people who are running into this problem of not
being able to uninstall WSS. I am one of them. Sad to see that an answer to
this problem has not showed itself. Instead of peers questioning why this
and why don't you do that, let's just answer the question. For some of us
it's much easier to upgrade than to do a clean install. I'll patiently sit
here waiting for a solution rather than re install over 100 programs, PID's,
etc, etc. For those of you who did a clean install, good for you.
