Can't install windows updates

Hi,

for the last month I've been unable to install any of the windows updates,
they download but all fail. I've tried installing them individually but
still they don't work, I know others that have been having the same problems,
any ideas?

To be perfectly fair, Defender *MAY* indeed be related to this condition.

One laptop that I have has accumulated 8 critical updates (7 MS
Office-related) over the past six weeks while other updates install without
so much as a whimper. So far the only "solution" that Microsoft was able to
provide was to reinstall everything.

To reinstall and reconfigure 10 GB of apps is completely UNACCEPTABLE,
seeing as it was a FRESH install one or two weeks prior to the first update
failure. Interestingly, I received a follow-up QC phone call this morning.
I gave Microsoft high marks on everything but their final "solution".

Prior issues (on the same laptop) relating to Defender included a quirk that
required the removal and reinstallation of .NET 2.0.

Further, it has been suggested that "registry cleaners" may have removed
related registry entries. I do not agree, since several other systems on
which CCLEANER is used regularly do not have any difficulty with updates. Go
figure.
