I have Window XP Pro installed on my machine. I am trying to install SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition but it tells me that it will only install client tools. And when I proceed I cannot access the local server to create databases
Why is this happening
Can any one help. I am very desperate

Here are the kind of things I get when I try to connect to Local

1. Local is not know to be runnin
2. A connection could not be established to loca
3. Reason : SQL server does not exist or access denied

Thanks

You can't install that version on a desktop OS.
You either need to install it on windows NT4/2000/2003 server.

you can instal the personal edition or desktop engine on XP, may not meet
your requirements though.

info about the different versions and their rquirements is here
