I want to install Windows Defender, but cannot install SP2 on my computer. I
have tried everything, but it just doesn't work. I have XP and all the
requirements. Does anyone know if Microsoft has fixed SP2? Thanks!!

Look, I got my computer from a computer store that is widely known, they do
not use pirated software. If you can't help me, please don't reply. Thanks.
I know I need SP 2, that's why I asked in the first place.

i would try to reinstall XP from scratch and try to update to SP2 again. you
can also combine the Win XP installation with the sp2 update (google for
windows xp Sp2 slipstream). it will take some time but your computer will run
faster again as a result!
otherwise its very difficult to help, without knowing what error messages
you got, other software you are running on your box, hardware used etc.

regards,
Martin

Look. If you think or someone as tell you that there was a problem with the
Service Pack 2, YOU are wrong not we.
The SP2 was and is installed in a more than 23.000.000 PCs without problem.
The only knowed problem is related to the pirated copies of WinXP....
The fact that you think that your copy is original because you've payed for,
don't necessarily means the is original.
You can easily check if this is the problem.
Go to download section in Microsoft website and try to download
something. Before the download start, your PC will be submitted to the Windows
Genuine Advantage test. If the download start your windows appears to be
original.
If this is the case, try to reinstall XP. You can do a reinstallation over
the existent copy without lost your data.

Hi

Have you been sleeping............. ;)

Of course pirate copies is a problem but the most
important problem with SP2 upgrades is malware and
heavily infested PCs.

So step 1 is to clean out all temporarily junk and malware.

One fast way is to run CCleaner and Ewido, then upgrade.

If problems persists follow this procedure:

we're talking about the fact that he can't install the SP2. I think that is
much more important that he check if the WinXP HE PAYED FOR!! is original or
not.
The WGA is the way that Microsoft use to check this.....

This depends on what error you get access denied is a permissions issue with
a file that needs to be written to. or norton 2005 or 2006 can block it plus
you need a legit copy make sure your version is

Then contact your widely-known computer store and have them
install SP2 for you- if it is an OEM copy of XP they are
assuming the support roll- have them support you

FYI EVERYONE:

My copy of xp is valid, (it validates it for you when you download sp2), but
I have the reinstall CD with the valid key on it. I tried again to run sp2
and it crashed my computer. I had to reinstall windows (and guess what, the
key is valid, duh!!) and scrounge around my backup for all my stuff. There
IS something wrong with sp2, not EVERYONE can use it. My computer has been
fine without it and I will continue to be fine until msn fixes it. Thanks to
all who tried to help and foo-foo on those who think they know everything
about my computer. I know my stuff is legit.

Frankly, getting SP2 on your machine is more important than getting Windows
Defender to work. I'd encourage you to spend some time and effort on that.
I know that you'll get a lot of sniping as happened here, but the security
improvements--and the longer support lifecycle--are important.
