Can't install software

Can somebody help. I'm trying to load a program that I got
from work. But when I click on the steup.exe file the hour
glass comes up for about 30 sec. and then disappears.
Nothing happens no error messages it just goes away and my
program is not installed. I checked the event viewer
(application) and it shows that the app was started ID 1
and then the app was stopped ID 2. any ideas???
 
How many software titles do you think exist, and why do you think that we
would be able to guess which one doesn't load?..
