I've got a Brother MFC-665CW printer I'm trying to install on my Windows
Vista PC. When it gets to the "Connect the machine Plug in the USB cable", it
doesn't recognize it and I can't click on the Next box. What can I do?

rddirks,

Check at the Brother website to determine whether a Vista Compatible printer
driver is available for your printer. If it is, download and use it to
install your printer, following the instructions provided by Brother. If no
driver is available, you then need to purchase a Vista compatible printer.
Contact Brother support if you need further assistance to get your printer
installed.

I'd like to recommend trying to plug the printer into a differnet usb
port. Sometimes just using a different USB port can help the printer
be properly recognized or the driver for the printer reinstalled,
hopefully correctly ;).

Which drivers are you using?

I see:

http://www.brother.com/E-ftp/windowsvista/us.html

that no drivers for the MFC-665CW shipped with Vista, but that they are now
available for download. (The bad news, if you don't have a broadband web
connection, is that they are 70 MB.)

There are also limited drivers available ("Add Printer Wizard Driver"), less
than 3 MB in size.

If you're not using these drivers, they may be worth a try.

HTH.
