can't install printer

get error msg, that say's the required .inf file is missing. Have try'd every
thing , even went out and bought a new 3 in one printer.
 
DON'T connect the printer to the PC. Install the software first during
which you'll be prompted when to connect it and when to turn it on.

HP Photosmart C3140

Everthing (HP Programs) show up but in my printer and fax folder I can't get
this printer to add in. My Old Printer was a Deskjet 932c and I downloaded
the software from HP for this one and couldn't get it to work either. Just as
a thought in my Windows file on my hard drive I have the following file, (
spool ) which has a file marked ( printers), (this is empty) and another file
marked ( 3 ) which has all the stuff including the drivers from HP ). I hope
this info helps. Thank you.
