Can't Install on 2nd Computer?

Did I miss the statement somewhere that says I'm unable
to install XP on a 2nd home computer? After shelling out
$110 for this, I think that's pretty ridiculous. Can
anybody tell me how I can work around the 30 day
activation? Any help would be greatly appreciated on this!

Hi,

You can't work around it, this is what Product Activation is for. One copy
per machine, as is the license for all retail versions of Windows. It's
always been that way, it's just that now there is a manner of enforcement.

Sorry if this is not the answer you wanted.

Do you get two cars when you purchase one? Buy another operating system for
your 2nd computer.

okay, in a newsgroup run by Microsoft everyone's going to jump up and tell
you how to get around it! sure, go buy another copy, that's what we had to
do, why should you be any different?

Greetings --

What planet are you from? Does your local grocer let you walk out
of the market with three loaves of bread when you've paid for only
one? Can you drive two cars home if you've paid for only one? Does
your local clothier allow you to leave the shop with two shirts if
you've purchased only one? Have you noticed a trend, yet? Where in
the world did you ever get the absurd idea that software manufacturers
would sell their product licenses any differently?

As it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft operating systems,
it's necessary (to be in compliance with both the EULA and copyright
laws, if not technically) to purchase one WinXP license for each
computer on which it is installed. The only way in which WinXP
licensing differs from that of earlier versions of Windows is that
Microsoft has finally added a copy protection and anti-theft
mechanism, Product Activation, to prevent (or at least make more
difficult) the sort of multiple installations you're asking about.

Exactly the same.
One license, one computer.
The way it has always been with all consumer Microsoft operating
systems.

Damn..was intending to load XP Pro on second home pc that curently had 98

None, unless you want enhanced file and folder security and the ability
to join a Domain as opposed to a workgroup.
