Has anyone ever had trouble installing new hardware
drivers with the error "Cannot install this Hardware" and
on a separate line it reads "The data is invalid". This
has happened to me when I've attempted to install a
Soundblaster Audigy EX PCI card some time ago and now
with a Linksys Wireless G PCI NIC (WMP54G).

Each vendors support (Creative and Linksys) claim that
they do not have records of this error within their
support knowledge bases and have otherwise not experience
install problems with their XP drivers. Given that I've
experienced the problem with 2 different hardware
devices, I'm really suspecting that the problem is with
my Windows XP Pro installation.

Has anyone else ever experienced this very frustrating
error and found a cure? If so, please share. I'm about
to format my hard drive and begin again with a clean
system if I can't discover another course of action.
Please help!

Thanks,
Joe

I have had nothing but trouble with install my SB
products in XP Pro. I finally got a good install on the
fourth clean install of XP Pro but I still cannot get the
Volume Control to show in the taskbar. Go figure. XP is
suppose to be easier but at least I could fix 98SE.
